Hi everyone

I'm a lactation consultant from russia
I mostly do consulting in the internet, for free. From time to time I meet women who plan to do breast surgery or already have breast surgery (not necessarily breast reduction)

I hoped it's possible for me to ask some questions in this forum, for clients who don't speak English.

I wonder where to ask - in my topic or create new topic.

thanks a lot!
currently there is the following situation

a woman had breast surgery, one duct was removed. the doctors promised there will be no problems with breastfeeding. But after birth of first child no milk or colostrum could be expressed from the breast, by hands, by baby or any other way. temperature raised, breast became solid, red, hot. they tried to express milk, with no success.

in a week doctors told her to stop lactation and so she did (medically). temperature was 37.5 C, but the breast was still solid, red and painful (shooting pain)

now she's pregnant again. we recommend her to use cabbage, not express milk from operated breast if there still will be no milk flow (is it possible that there WILL be milk in that breast too?), and go to mammolog for lymphastic drainage massage.
can she do anything else to improve her condition?

Was just one breast operated on? She should still be able to nurse from the other breast.

Was the nipple removed and re-attached or otherwise damaged during the surgery? That is the only reason I can think of why milk would not flow at all.

yes, she wants to nurse from one breast. i gave her information from bfar FAQ but she is afraid the blocked breast will be as painfull as previous time. so I wondered what women do with non-lactating breast

thanks a lot for help!
unfortunately, despite all information and contact number of mammologist, with tis child again the breastfeeding was stopped fot this woman shortly after birth because of pressure of doctors. sad.gif

I have new question

now a woman with implants, that were inserted through areola zone, so half of areola was cut and then put back
she has 38+ weeks of pregnancy now. She wants to breastfeed but her doctor says she shouldn`t feed even with colostrum, because there will be lactostase in damaged ducts and possible mastitis

mother asks is there a possibility that BF is allowed (according to FAQ, it's yes, right?)
what can be done to examine the current state of ducts?
she is very much afraid of mastitis and afraid they'll "cut part of her breast off"

we are very much interested in information from women with similar situation - how they could get any information on breast state before the delivery, were there cases of mastitis after, what was done and so on

now location is not even Moscow - Irkutsk, Siberia
